ERROL
1990-91 season · AU199091_07U
History
Severe Tropical Cyclone Errol developed on 9 April 2025 as the final tropical cyclone of the 2024–25 Australian region cyclone season. After remaining relatively weak for nearly a week, Errol underwent rapid intensification between 15 and 16 April, reaching peak intensity as a Category 5 severe tropical cyclone. The system subsequently weakened before making landfall along the coast of Western Australia, eventually dissipating on 18 April 2025.
Errol formed during a notably active season that produced 12 tropical cyclones in total, eight of which reached severe tropical cyclone status — the highest count since the 2005–06 season. While Errol was the most intense storm by category to strike Western Australia that season, the greatest damage and casualties of the 2024–25 season were attributed to other systems, particularly Cyclone Zelia and Cyclone Alfred, which together accounted for the bulk of the season's combined toll of over two billion US dollars in damage and 54 deaths across the broader region.
