History

Tropical Cyclone Errol developed as a tropical low on 11 January 1982 in the Australian region, forming from the same monsoon trough that also produced Cyclones Bruno and Daphne–Fifi. The system organised and was classified as a tropical cyclone at 00:00 UTC on 13 January, subsequently moving in a general southwest to westward direction. Errol intensified gradually over the following days, reaching its peak intensity on 15 January with maximum winds of 100 km/h and an estimated central pressure of 980 hPa, placing it at Category 2 strength. As it peaked, the storm began to recurve towards the southeast before weakening. On 18 January, Errol merged with the neighbouring Tropical Cyclone Bruno. The cyclone caused flood damage in Western Australia during its passage, though no specific casualty figures are recorded in available sources.
