HUBERT

History
Tropical Cyclone Hubert was one of the systems of the 2005–06 Australian region tropical cyclone season, a season assessed as above average in activity. The official season period ran from 1 November 2005 to 30 April 2006, although the regional tropical cyclone operational plan also recognises a separate tropical cyclone year extending from 1 July 2005 to 30 June 2006.
Cyclones occurring within the Australian region during this period were tracked and warned on by four Tropical Cyclone Warning Centres: three operated by the Australian Bureau of Meteorology, at Perth, Darwin and Brisbane, and a fourth at Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea. Depending on where a system formed and how it moved, responsibility for warnings could transfer between these centres, and systems crossing 90°E to the west passed into the area of responsibility of Météo-France in Réunion, where they were renamed and renumbered under that agency's conventions. Systems in the region were also monitored on an unofficial basis by the United States Joint Typhoon Warning Center, whose intensity estimates used a different averaging period and at times differed from the Bureau's assessments.
The 2005–06 season produced a number of notable systems, including Severe Tropical Cyclone Bertie–Alvin, Severe Tropical Cyclone Clare, which crossed the Pilbara coast near Karratha and Dampier in January 2006, Tropical Cyclone Daryl, and Severe Tropical Cyclone Jim, along with several tropical lows that brought flooding rainfall to the Northern Territory and Western Australia.
