History
Tropical Cyclone Tatiana formed over the Coral Sea on 11 February 2016, during the 2015–16 Australian region cyclone season — one of the least active seasons on record, with only three named systems developing in the region. The season's unusually low activity was attributed to a strong El Niño event and a positive Indian Ocean Dipole, both of which suppressed tropical cyclone development.
Tatiana remained over open water throughout its brief existence, never making landfall on the Australian coast. The system dissipated on 15 February 2016 after tracking across the Coral Sea. Although it did not strike land, Tatiana generated powerful long-period swells that affected beaches along the Queensland coastline. No significant casualties or structural damage were reported in connection with the cyclone.
